So. The Allied Shinobi Forces is said to consist of 80,000 Shinobi and Samurai, meaning that each of the five villages (and the Land of Iron) have an average of 13,333 ninja apiece... or samurai in the Land of Iron's case.

Even the optional Huge Village stops counting at 2000 ninja.

Let's extrapolate about the population of pre-existing villages, given to us by the author himself in those supplementary material things...

Konohagakure: 5/5
Iwagakure: 4/5
Kumogakure: 3/5
Kirigakure: 2/5
Sunagakure: 2/5

For the sake of argument, let's average the Land of Iron at 3.

So... 19 population 'stars' total = 80,000.

Now, population stars could mean shinobi or merely civillian population, but since they are relative- it's irrelevant... so...

Therefore...

Konohagakure: 5/19 = 0.26315789473684210526315789473684% = 21,052
Iwagakure: 4/19 = 0.21052631578947368421052631578947% = 16,842
Kumogakure: 3/19 = 0.15789473684210526315789473684211% = 12,631
Kirigakure: 2/19 = 0.10526315789473684210526315789474% = 8,421
Sunagakure: 2/19 = 0.10526315789473684210526315789474% = 8,421

In short? Assuming Konoha is a Huge Village, then all figures in the Hidden Village statblocks should be multiplied by about 10. So. Add another zero? Wink

However, those ARE the 5 major villages, so because they're the 5 largest and most prosperous by far, you could argue that they're all Huge class. I'm sure smaller villages like sound fall into one of the lower categories.

It'a also entirely possible that Kishimoto has just stopped thinking entirely by this point in the manga and thought up 80,000 arbitrarily.

I made a stat block way back to better emulate this, I always figured the villages were pretty large to begin with. As Frankto has though, it's comes nowhere even close (no offense).

GIANT SNAKE SUMMON, MIND-CONTROL, TELEPORTATION, AND ASSPULL NO JUTSU DHJDFJ FJFDJHDHJDDSDHJ!

...You're probably right.

Eh, I just always thought those numbers were a little small considering the kind of social and economic institutions you see Konoha running on. Even if it stops counting at 2000, that basically makes the exact population count determined ad-hoc, removing the usefullness of the hidden village generation... thing altogether. Not that I don't like it, it's great for getting a quick and easy idea of what a particular village should be capable of. Very Happy ...it just seems a bit... slim.

Well, it is there for a quick build village... that's kind of the point. If you want more it's your job as GM to add it. Wink

Oh no, like I said... all that I find is neccessary would be adding a 0 to just about every number. Just thought I might share my extrapolations with others. Razz

Thanks for pointing that out Zatoichi. I will need to recalibrate some of my village numbers...it also make more sense with what we see in the manga/anime. 20,000 would be an average-to-small town here (uk) afterall.

Perhaps Frankto will consider adjusting the numbers at some point. Although I can't blame for him making that guess initially.

It was no guess. I already included a Huge optional village. The numbers are there to keep things manageable. GMs are free to use that if they wish. I may include Huge, Gargantuan and Colossal if I feel up to it.

I know I for one would find that very useful. A lot of my campaigns explore the cultures and intertwining histories of the 5 major villages, it would be great to have a nice demographic reference system to use alongside.

It also fits with the touted "star" rating kishi uses:
1 = Medium
2 = Large
3 = Huge
4 = Gargantuan
5 = Colossal

small would cover any other minor or emerging villages as well.

Hmmm....I have an urge to start tinkering now.

And consider this: You aren't counting the Iron Samurai in the equation.

Sigh. If only Kishimoto went into more detail about the Land of Iron and the Samurai.

ZeronosVega, I tend to think of the Naruto universe as the direct opposite of Japan during the age of ninja: The Samurai are the relatively small group, and by most accounts, the one that people don't know the numbers of. Once again, this thought, of course, goes by the fact that the only information I have comes directly from the manga.

There is no significance in this results Zatoichi.

While on average they might be correct, without errors and uncertainities, there is no way to properly use these results.

Also you are comparing apples with oranges.

Kishimoto gave a military power, population and economic power. The population will not equal the ninja number directly.
