Just learned that trying to design your own Campaign Setting/Source book for d20 Modern (Future) based off of Mass Effect, is quite an undertaking. *dies* Will show more when there is more to show for it.

I can imagine it being quite the undertaking. In all honesty, if I were trying to develop a Mass Effect system, I'd try and base it off of the Star Wars Roleplaying game. I feel that the game presents itself a bit better for the setting of Mass Effect, what with an easy conversion between Force Power and Biotics and the fact that space combat is set in stone.

I agree with Zeronus, d20 is not exactly the best setting for Mass Effect. Check out Star Wars Saga edition.

d20 is not a setting. Please stop referring to it as such.

Star Wars Saga Edition is a d20 system game. O_o?

Moreover? Using SWSE as a base for anything other than SWSE is a terrible, terrible, terrible idea.

The reason for me suggesting it is because there are similarities between the Mass Effect universe and the Star Wars universe. As such, it would be an easier transition from one universe to the other. At the very least, it would make for a good point of reference.

There's a reason Lucas Arts dropped the contract with WotC, because Wizards hasn't been able to make a half-way decent game since they started 4e.

Yeah, I mean I am planning to take the Power Suite Idea from SWSE, but that's about it. I considered the Skill system until I remembered I disliked it for something that has a bunch of players, I am looking at six to seven people who want to play.

The biggest hurdle I am facing is the way the system is laid out, I really don't know what I am doing to build the races, quite yet. Lets not even talk about cybernetics, wetware, and robotics...*shiver*

Though I am bringing back LA from DnD, and Urban Arcana. I don't think all the normal races in Mass Effect could match the base a human is expected to start at.

Not necessarily, though.

A setting could be designed in a way that allows other races to use their natural talents from the get-go, without forcing them into an inferior position (because, presuming Biotic and Tech abilities scale somewhat with level, an LA can make them very weak when combined with these races)

You could compensate with penalties, or you could compensate with added bonuses for other, 'weaker' races. It's all about striking a balance.

Just make sure that, whatever way you choose to 'solve' the problem, it has to make sense.

I'm interested in seeing what this will become though. The universe is interesting enough, and it could definitely work.

How do you plan on expanding on the limited selection of powers, though? (Or are you only including the powers shown in the ME games) With only very few powers seen from the games, Biotics and Techies (Adepts/Sentinels) would all end up more or less the same. Not exactly ideal. (Take it from me, trying to make up a variety of feats/powers/spells can be a bitch :p)
