Rinnegan Asura Path

i, I've a question about the asura path of the rinnegan.
The description says that it's possible shapeshift and take the form of any familiar creature. Than says that my own type and traits change, but apart this, what other changes have I?
Can i compare this effect to a spell of D&D or Pathfinder, like Polymorph o Shapechange? I take the abilities scores of the creature or a bonus to my own abilities scores? The exttraordinary abilities, natural armor bonus and similar thinks? There's an HD limit for the creature i can copy?
These are my doubts.
