Just realized this "the bond is only one way, though,
and the clones cannot send orders, thoughts or images to the user."
I know it's probably for balance, but as nice as spying is, is it that necessary to game balance given it's a Jounin only technique and without mastery, it's not much help (50 feet isn't going to be too far). |

Remember that after the KB disappears, you receive all the information learned by it. So, send it to spy and then dismiss it. You still have your spying effect. |

Or you have ninja com-devices for clones. Yamato's mokuton binshin has one . _________________ Oy, this is going to be troublesome *sigh* |

Also, I believe Mokuton Bunshin can relay information, as in the show, Ninja Com Devices are rather easy to see. |

Then create new ones! .
Seems to me that it is sort of imbalanced that a corporeal bunshin could freely scout around and relay information rather effectively. But that's probably just me. _________________ Oy, this is going to be troublesome *sigh* |

Well bunshins go 30-50 feet. You, unless there's a lot of cover or you can hide in plain sight (in which case you can see what your spying on anyway), the bunshin really can't go that far not matter the type. |

True. But if you're going with the anime, some bunshin can apparently go a lot farther (such as the mokuton bunshin). _________________ Oy, this is going to be troublesome *sigh* |

Didn't Naruto's Kage Bunshins cover an area of around a square mile, when he was looking for Sasuke recently? It was a square mile, or five miles in every direction, I cannot remember which.
I know, of course, that as a main character Naruto is teh 7331 haxxors and RPs with a Game Genie, and cannot be taken as cannon, but I hope this puts some light on the matter.
That, and he sent one from the middle of nowhere to the middle of Konoha, to find Asuma. _________________ Sarcasm and cigarettes, provided daily.

Would you all think that it would be unbalanced to allow Kage/Mizu/Ishi Bunshins to roam around freely? |

That depends completely on their ability to relay information to the user of the technique.
If there is none without using special means of communication, either by techniques or com devices, then no, I would not find it unbalanced.
If there is, such as live feedback, or instant knowledge gain when the bunshin pops out of existence, then yes, I would find it as such. _________________ Oy, this is going to be troublesome *sigh* |

I pretty sure it's just kage bushin because of how they take life force, compare to the illusion of normal bushins. |

Wait, what does this have to do with Kage Bunshins not being able to relay information? |

Hm... Makses sense. Kage Bunshin is made of raw chakra/essence from the user, while Mizu/Ishi/whatever Bunshins are made of certain elements. |
