Hey, I am working on the plan for an epic campaign, involving an organization called "Kuru no Katsu". It's a group of powerful enemies that have learned how to use the Negative Energy(following the special rules I have created) even more potently than anyone else. It's four leaders are known as the "Lords of Darkness", though the organization is pretty unkown thus far.

For this group I am creating a prestige class known as The Sworn of Darkness(epic), which ends up rendering the person Immortal(as the template).

I both require some help with their true objectives and with the prestige class... anyone interested?

Opening a gate to the Negative Energy Plane. It's from DnD, but who says Naruto doesn't have one. Or some other way to massively augment their powers at the expense of the world.

Yep... that would do... Especially since the stuffs I came up with while I was mowing the lawn... I will give a little bit more details about this as I have written it together... Also, there will be more optional rules(or, rather, a continuation of the last one)... *sigh*

How about an ability, possibly a Kuru no Katsu Hijutsu that allows them to inflict the special negative energy damage onto another character, but if they don't have the proper feat, they only get the disadvantages, and none of the advantages until they take the Child of Darkness feat.

Actually, Kuru no Katsu is one of the few organizations that, in ancient legends, were said to possess the Cursed Seal. Some of their offspring(that survived) where able to acquire the seal more easily than others. But sometimes nature leapt forward, since the cursed seal is an abomination of all that life stands for, thus, the human called Juugo(was that right?) and others of his like appeared through out the years.

The funny thing, though, is that the two now "noble seals" never existed before. Sure, there were many who were able to use the Cursed Seal lvl 2, but their seals were different, marked directly from the four gods.
The seals were: Light and Darkness, Life and Death, each bestowed by one of the gods, granting powers unique to all, but yet similar. Some(of those few who now the bloody past of the Cursed Seal) believe, or speculate, that traces of Light and Darkness would be the foundation of the Cursed Seal of Heaven, and Life and Death that of Earth. Some argue, though, and claim that Light and Death created Heaven, and Life and Darkness Earth. But none know.

The past of the organization known as Kuru no Katsu dwells far back into the dawn of the Shinobi world, when the Four Unspeakable Gods of the Abyss were revered by some. Kuru no Katsu was formed directly by the wish of the gods, something like their "church", to be an army to conquer the world for them, for they longed to leave the hellhole known as the abyss for the prosperous world... But this could only happen when the world was theirs truly and fully.

The army that marched across the world could only be called human because of the height and basic anatomy appearance, but otherwise monstrous beasts, craving to kill. They were lead by four mystic leaders, called "The Lords of Darkness", and they were unstoppable.

The elders of the Shinobi consulted each others, and asked the earth itself for protection. The earth smiled at them, and gave them the Bijus, mystical and powerful beings enchanted with the powers of earth. Nine they were, and they triumphantly drove away and destroyed the army of abominations. All was good.

But the elders and the people feared the Bijus powers, for it was beyond their understanding. They asked the elders, and the elders argued for days and nights before they came to an answer. they told the people that to save them from the beings, they would need 9 men or women, and 9 children, or babies. The nine men and women would be the Jinchuriki, a human sacrifice to save them, and the children would be the containers of the beasts, and were allways called The Blood of Human Sacrifice, for the technique was completed by brushing the blood of the dead onto the body of the child. All was good, and the pwople calm.

But things would not remain. Those who eagerly had praised the containers of their dreams, soon came to fear them. They had been bestowed with unbelievable powers, and many were unstable, ready to kill at a minutes notice. Thus began the harsh life of them, as we know today. Many sought to rid the demons in their body, and a few managed, but then it took hundreds, even thousands, of years before they re-appeared, enraged at the shinobi for the treachery, for the Bijus contain such amount of power and soul from the earth that they may not be slain, and only merely control. But yet, all was well...

However, the powers of the Four Gods have begun to spread again, the four "priests" has been summoned, and they have taken their apprentices... Is it only a matter of time until darkness will conquer the world as before? Only now, the Bijuus are trapped!


This is what I came up with while lawnmowing Wink
And the Prestige class, I though having two talent trees. One with boosting Cursed Seal, and one for Boosting Negative Energy... Apart from that, I do not know what more powers they would receive... Here's the progression thus far:

But I haven't really spawned in the powers granted... Perhaps I could give them a bonus feat also? Rolling Eyes

Well slap me silly...this is vaguely similar to campaigns I have previously run, who simply implemented the basics from the D&D supplement of Oriental Adventures and Rokugan. It used taint, Jigoku, the Shadow Realm and the heavenly plane. I actually made two classes pertaining to shinobi that allied themselves with this evil force, using the taint as a power base.

I could pass them along to you. Even if you don't use taint, you might find a useful idea or two in there to hijack :-p.

I would love to see them! It is a funny coincidence, that which you spoke of, how alike those to stories seem... Someone might belive I have hijacked it! Shocked

I also have Oriental Adventures in my shelf, but the rules for taint is much more fun in Heroes of Horror!

I'll just post the classes in here, for everyone's enjoyance.

They are probably somewhat highly powered, but that was mostly because of the power level of the campaign.

TAINTED SOUL

Tainted Souls wield the very power of the Shadow Realm and Jigoku in their techniques, for they have embraced the evil that slumbers there, and joined with it. A powerful combination of evil energy, spilt blood and chakra causes powerful blows to the enemy, and jutsu that have been lost through time to the Mortal Realm of Ningen-do. Tainted Souls come from anywhere, but at some point they have all acquired a taste for raw power, which can only be found in the Shadow Realm and Jigoku. Since the barrier between the Realms had been sealed for a long time, there were but a few Tainted Souls, those mortals that were raised in the Shadow Realm and escaped the scores of demonic and undead hordes there sometimes sought to explore this power.
To most other Realms, the practices of the Tainted Soul are, or were once, forbidden. It has a strong link to the evil Realms, and obviously that?s not very wanted.

REQUIREMENTS
To qualify to become a Tainted Soul, a character must fulfill all the following criteria.

Base Will Save: +4
Shadow Realm Taint: 4+
Chakra Control 8 ranks, Ninjutsu OR Genjutsu 8 ranks, Knowledge (Shadow Realm) 4 ranks.
Must learn from someone who knows the practise, who can mainly be found in the Shadow Realm itself, perhaps even in Jigoku.


HD: d8

CLASS SKILLS
The Tainted Soul?s class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are;
For Ninjutsu: Chakra Control (Wis), Concentration (Con), Craft (Chemical) (Int), Hide (Dex), Knowledge (History, Ninja Lore, Physical Science, Shadow Realm) (Int), Listen (Wis), Move Silently (Dex), Ninjutsu (Int), Research (Int), Search (Int), Spot (Wis).
For Genjutsu: Bluff (Cha), Chakra Control (Wis), Concentration (Con), Craft (Calligraphy, Chemical), Disguise (Cha), Genjutsu (Cha), Hide (Dex), Knowledge (Earth and Life Sciences, History, Ninja Lore, Physical Science, Shadow Realm) (Int), Listen (Wis), Move Silently (Dex), Search (Int), Spot (Wis).

CLASS FEATURES
The following are class features of the Tainted Soul, and only apply to the type of jutsu you chose, either Ninjutsu OR Genjutsu. The Chakra Control bonus applies only to them as well.
Force of Evil: The character is fully immersed in evil, and evil takes its share in the character?s body and mind. The characters prime Allegiance is now Evil. The character also now counts as a Shadow Realm creature, Demon and/or Undead with regards to special techniques (especially Haradou).
Taint Suppression: The Tainted Soul learns quickly the ways of evil, and embraces it. For that, evil grants the character a boon. The character no longer applies a Taint penalty to Constitution, and only half the normal Taint penalty to Wisdom. Does not stack with the Embrace the Taint feat. As the Taint no longer modifies Constitution, there is no real outward sign that the creature is a Shadow Realm creature, or inflicted by the Taint.
Total Corruption: At 2nd level, the dark energies gathered have fully invaded the Tainted Soul?s body, and have fully fused with the character?s Chakra Circulatory System. The user?s chakra turns black with a crimson glow, and it now counts as Evil/Dark chakra. Evil chakra is necessary for certain evil techniques (which are powerful), and can even change the elemental aspect of a technique, changing half of all elemental damage to Unholy/Evil damage. (This effect also affects how the technique looks!). When using evil chakra, the character receives 1 Stamina damage for every 4 CP spent. If less than 4 CP is spent on a technique, no damage is dealt.
Bonus Feat: (List still missing >.>)
Might of Darkness I: At 4th level, the character now merges further with the darkness within him, granting him a bonus to his Chakra Pool equal to his Taint Score Modifier, if any. Tainted Chakra deals 1 stamina damage per 2 CP used, instead of the regular 1 point of damage per 4 CP.
Dark Synergy: At 5th level, Evil relinquishes part of its inherent control exerted by the Taint, to allow its servant to grow more effective. The user may now apply one-third his/her Taint score as a bonus to Chakra Control, instead of using Wisdom.
Overwhelming Evil: Evil?s might spreads, to overwhelming levels! The user now applies half his/her Taint Score modifier to the Save DCs of his/her techniques, which overlaps(!) the normal Ability Modifier. The bonus cannot be more than one-third the character?s level.
Might of Darkness II: The bonus to CP now increases to half the character?s Taint Score.
Might of Darkness III: The bonus reaches its most powerful stage, a complete immersion in evil and a perfect embrace with it! The character draws upon the power of the Taint as much as it does on it?s own power. The character adds his entire Taint Score to his Chakra Pool.

TAINTED WARRIOR

Tainted Warriors are the commanding force of Jigoku and the Shadow Realm. Often, individuals that take this class are chosen later on to lead small armies of minor demons, and perhaps, if his strength grows powerful enough, they command more powerful armies. Tainted Warriors draw upon their link with Jigoku, the Taint, for power and prowess in battle.
Tainted Warriors are highly respected by the community in the Shadow Realm, and are not quick to be angered by them, unless necessary.

REQUIRMENTS
To qualify to become a Tainted Warrior, a character must fulfill all the following criteria.

Base Attack Bonus: +4
Shadow Realm Taint: 10+
Taijutsu 8 ranks
Must learn from someone who knows the practise.

HD: d10

CLASS SKILLS
The Tainted Warrior?s class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are;

Dark Guidance I: At 2nd level, the Tainted Warrior is granted a special favor by Jigoku. The Taint in the Warrior is linked with it, and through it Jigoku guides the Warrior?s hands and feet in combat, in an attempt to slay more creatures in the name of Evil. This ability adds +1 to all rolls to hit the character makes. This effect does not stack with Weapon Focus, and only works with creatures that have lower Taint than the Tainted Warrior.
Rend the Body: At 2nd level, the Tainted Warrior learns a potent technique. As the Warrior stabs or slashes the target in melee, a dark tendril shoots forth from the weapon upon hitting, attempting to sever muscles and tendons. The attack?s damage turns to Unholy entirely, and if it hits, the opponent must succeed a Fort save (DC 10 + Tainted Warrior level + Strength Modifier) or suffer d4+1 Strength, Dex or Constitution damage, to be chosen by the Tainted Warrior upon attacking. Usable once per day per two levels of Tainted Warrior.
Bonus Feat: As the bonus feat list granted by the Elite Shinobi Swordsman.
Vile Strength I: At 5th level, Jigoku uses the link the Taint grants with the Warrior to strengthen his resolve and infuse his body with killer intent. In effect, the character now adds +2 damage to all attacks, but this applies only to either melee or ranged weaponry, and only on weapons of teh chosen damage die, or one die lower. (So d10 works for Katanas and ninja-tos, for example, but not for wakizashis or kunai in melee). Does not stack with Weapon Specialisation.
Rend the Spirit: As Rend the Body, but now the dark tendrils try to force their way into the target?s mind and cut away at important bundles of nerves. The character makes an attack, as with Rend the Body, but now the ability damage is d4+1 Int, Wis or Cha, to be chosen by the Dark Warrior upon attacking. A succesful Will save (DC 10 + Tainted Warrior level + Charisma modifier) negated this effect entirely. Usable once per day per three levels of Tainted Warrior.
Death Knell: The Tainted Warrior thrives on the death of its opponents, and if it slays one in battle it absorbs an unholy energy tied with the death of any creature as he sucks away a part of their innate energy. When the Tainted Warrior kills a creature in close combat, he gains +d8 temporary Hit Points, +2 Strength and he counts as one character level higher for any and all effects (except Hit Points, Chakra Pool, Skill Ranks and feat selection). This boost lasts for 1 minute per HD of the creature that was slain. It stacks up to three times.
Dark Guidance II: The bonus granted by Dark Guidance increases to +2.
Vile Strength II: Up to three times per day, at the expense of an Action Point, the character summons the power of his Taint to imbue his strike. The Tainted Warrior adds half his Taint Score to his damage. This is Unholy damage. A creature that is succesfully dealt damaged by the Unholy damage must make a Fort save (DC total damage dealt) or acquire d3 Taint. This effect applies to only the first attack after the ability is used.

Ooh, if this appears in out game, then that kicks ass. I love Heroes of Horror but I haven't used it yet.

You should use the tips about how to DM them... I allways take inspiration from horror stuff, and my games are allways some kind of semi-horrors, at least that's what my friends say Wink Hail to Lovecraft!

LIFE:
God: God of Unification


The user is able to create an aura that quells a beings thirst for blood or vengence, and stills the persons mind ( Will save: DC 15+Char mod+? levels) by using 6 chakra. As an effect of this power, hostile targets become unhostile for the duration. This power lasts for a number of rounds equal to the users charisma modfier + 4.

The user is also able to create genjutsus of true horror by simply looking on them and paying 14 chakra. The user may choose whether or not the target will receive damage as an effect of this technique. If the user does, the character gains 4d6 lethal damage. If the user chooses not to, he may make the target become Frenzied, Panicked, Frightened or Unconscious for a number of rounds equal to 2d6.

The users appearence changes, and his skins attains a brown color, and his eyes becomes silver. On the base of his neck, he gains a second head appears. The head can only deliver Genjutsu attacks with the doujutsu type, aswell as alerting the user of danger. As an effect of this technique, the user gains an extra action every round to execute such a technique.



DARKNESS
God: God of the Abyss


The user has an aura which enables him/her to take control of people, or make them do his/her bidding (Will save: DC 15+Char mod+? level) for 8 chakra. As an effect, the user forces the target to do one action of the users choice. This command may not harm the target, but may harm the targets friends. (Example: the command "Kill yourself" would have no effect, while the command "Kill your friend" would have)

The user also gains the power to harm people by using a powerful aura to plant Negative Energy in their bodies for 24 chakra. This attack deals 4d6+2 NE damage and affects anyone within 10 meters of the user.

The users appearence changes, and his skin attains a reddish black color, and his eyes becomes black. From his sides, he grows two extra arms that can be used as normal, thus enabling one to both guard himself and executing jutsus. As an effect of this power, the user is able to gain an extra attack action at his/hers highest modifier. The user may also be counted as being in total defense, aswell as attacking.



LIGHT
God: God of Judgement


The user gains an uncanny sense of enemies prescence, and can clearly separate lies from truth through succeeding a Sense Motive check with a bonus modifier of his/her character level (example: if anyone tries to stab the user in the back, he knows so when the enemy tries to sneak up against the user.).

The user may also designate a target as "Judged One" for 18 chakra points. The user gains a bonus to attacks and damage rolls against this target equal to +6. Only two targets per 24 hours may be designated.

The users appearence changes, and his skin takes the color of pure white, and his eyes becomes golden. Out of his back, two white angelic wings grow out. As an effect of this power, the user is able to fly at twice his/her bas speed at poor maneuvarability.


DEATH:
God: God of the Sword


The user gains Damage Reduction of 6/-. The user may shape his/her limbs to form weapons as strong as if they were made of steel by paying 6 chakra points. The limbs deal 3d6+3 damage, plus strength modifier. The limbs may be extended as long as the user wishes, but every meter that the weapon is extended beyond the first costs 4 chakra.

The users appearence changes, and his skin becomes gray. He also gains to horns that grows out of his head(these may also be used to be hardened or extended). These horns may be used to deal damage when charging. If that is chosen, the horns deals an amount of damage equal to 3d6+4 plus Strength modifier.


Effective Level Adjustment for these Seals: +2(+3 Unwilling)



Sworn of the Dark(Epic Prestige Class)

To be added

REQUIREMENTS:

To become a Sworn of the Dark, a character must fulfill the following requirements:

Feats: Plunge Into Darkness
Skills: At least 40 skill points divided into Ninjutsu, Taijutsu and/or Genjutsu.
Allegience: Abyss, Power, Self
Special: Cursed Level 2 Template(Life, Death, Light or Darkness).
Special: Must be a member of Kuru no Katsu

HD: d8

CLASS SKILLS:
The Sworn of the Dark's class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are:
Bluff (Cha), Concentration (Con), Chakra Control (Wis), Decipher Script (Int), Diplomacy (Cha), Escape Artist (Dex), Genjutsu (Cha), Hide (Dex), Intimidate (Cha), Investigate (Int), Knowledge (ninja lore) (Int), Knowledge (the abyss) (Int), Listen (Wis), Move Silently (Dex), Ninjutsu (Int), Research (Int), Search (Int), Sense Motive (Wis), Sleight of hand (Dex), Survival (Wis), Taijutsu (Str), Tumble (Dex).

Skill Points Per Level: 7 + Intelligence modifier.

NEGATIVE ENERGY MASTERY:

Body In The Abyss(Requires Mind In Darkness)
The character gains an amount of HP equal to half his/her level.

Heart In The Abyss(Requires 2 or more Negativ Energy Mastery)
The character is able to use Negative Energy more potently. The damage dealt while using the Child of Darkness feat is increaesed to +4 dies, and +4. This added damage may go beyond the normal restriction

Mind In Darkness
The character gains an increase to the DC of resisting or evading jutsus using NE damage by +4.

Mind In The Abyss(Requires 2 or more Negative Energy Mastery)
The character gains the ability to imbue others with Self-Inflicted Negative Energy by touching them. The amount of Self-Inflicted Negative Energy imbued may not be more than 300. This ability only functions twice per person in a life time.

Soul In The Abyss(Requires at least 3 other Negative Energy Mastery)
The character adds the Negative Energy template to all his techniques, and gains +6 to perform any technique with this template. The user also gains a bonus to chakra equal to half his/hers level.


CURSED SEAL MASTERY:

The Powers Of Less
The character gains the lesser power of another seal aswell as his/her own. The chakra used is increased with 8 chakra points. If the power costs no chakra, the power now costs 8 chakra to use.

The Powers Of More(Requires The Powers Of Less for chosen Seal)
The character gains the physical deformity of another seal aswell as his/her own. Note that the color of the skin is not altered, but the character gains, if Light was chosen, a pair of wings of the same color as that he/she takes when using the cursed seal. The seal chosen with this ability must be the same as that of The Powers of Less.

The Powers Of Spirit
The characters wisdom is permanently increased by 4(+4)

The Powers Of Force(Requires The Powers Of Spirit)
The charcters constitution is permanently increased by 4(+4). He/she also gains a bonus to Chakra Points equal to +10.

New Feat:

PLUNGE INTO DARKNESS

Some of those who has been engulfed by the powers of the abyss crave more. Those plunge into the darkness to acquire more of the sweet power, giving their soul to the abyss.
Requirements: Child of Darkness
Benefits: As an effect of the character is giving him/herself to the darkness, succombing truly and fully to it, the characters Self-Inflicted Negative Energy Damage Column is increased by 400. The character also gains "The Abyss" as a permanent allegience.

I'm not quite sure I understand this, the part I don't get is "is increaesed to +4 dies, and +4". All techniques will do 4 dice +4 additional damage instead of 1 die +2 when applying Child of Darkness to a technique? If so, does the damage he takes will increase to 4d4+4?

These seem to take away from the uniqueness of the seals. As I understand it, the is only one person at a time who can have a specific God Seal, 4 people with God Seals total? I would think that it would be better to gain improved mastery of your own seal, such as +2 to the DCs of your ability (may or may not stack with ability focus feat), gain an additional set of arms for the God of the Abyss, Move at 3 times your normal speed and at average maneuverability for the God of Judgment, etc. And if you leave it as is Powers of Less should be explained better.


As a whole, I like the idea. The class is hugely overpowered, but since it is for your NPCs only, thats not really a factor I wouldn't think.

Thought you might say it's overpowered but then, the sacrifices you have made along the way is also huge. You have given away your soul, your life and they've lost just about everything that made them human. But I would like to some tips to make it a little more balanced... It should not be TO overpowered Wink

As with the Heart In The Abyss ablity, only the damage dealt is increased. The total outcome is that a techniques damage is increased by +4 dies(of said dietype) and +4. The damage received is not increased thus far, but I am thinking about increasing it... Perhaps I should add a rank where the user is healed by NE damage, but then that increased damage received would be useless.

About the Powers Of Less and More, I was going to give each seal a more thourough explanation where I state which power is lesser and stronger. About increasing the powers of said Seal, that's what I thought first. But this was what I got out today when I worked with it for 30-60 mins.

About the number of people possessing the seals, I were thinking of making "lesser" versions of the four seals, so that they can bestow a minor form of the seal unto their servants(in order to create the horde from the legends). Or perhaps I should give them an ability were their minions take on a permanent template that gives them deformeties, etc.?

Also, I would like a little help with ideas for hijutsus/kinjutsus for the Four Lord Of Darkness(The leaders of Kuru no Katsu). If it's to any help, here's their current levels and a little about my first thoughts about their specializations:

Lord of the Abyss: (ECL 31) Fast 4/Smart 2/Ninja Scout 5/Ninja Operations Counter 3/Taijutsu Master 3/Shade 5/Sworn of the Dark 7
-True Master of using the Negative Energy to imbue his natural attacks. Wielder of the Black Lightning and the Dark Fire(no existing rules).

Lord of Judgement: (ECL 30) Tough 4/Dedicated 4/Ninja Scout 3/(Weapon Master or Elite Shinobi Swordsman) 5/Immortal Shinobi 5/Sworn of the Dark 7
-Nin/Taijutsu. Master of using his huge hammer.

Lord of Unification: (ECL 29) Charismatic 2/Fast 3/Ninja Scout 6/Genjutsu Adept 5/Shade 4/Sworn of the Dark 7
-Master of Genjutsu

Lord of the Sword: (ECL 28) Strong 4/Fast 3/Elite Shinobi Swordsman 10/Ninja Scout 3/Sworn of the Dark 7
-Taijutsu/Chakra Control. Formerly a master of using swords, nowadays a master of the powers from his seal.

EDIT: To make it clear, I don't ask of you to write them for me, but I rather need ideas before I can make hijutsus/kinjutsus, nay?

I think lesser versions of the seals would be a good idea, but rather than modeling them completely after the cursed seal, make there only the seal, no willing or unwilling differences. The unwilling makes the save to resist an order, the willing doesn't bother making the save, he just does as he is told. Perhaps the ability to control the unwilling branded can only be used when the seal is active? Meaning you get to force a transformation, from a level 30ish character. Twisted Evil

(Well excuse me?) Yeah, I'll maybe work with something like that...


The reason that I have willing and unwilling is that you currently may take the feat "Path of Light" and be able to get the cursed seal with the unwilling template. That's the only reason, and that is the only way to have the Unwilling template.

The question is just: What would I call those lesser seals? Would I just call the Lesser God Seals? And in truth, the 30ish characters aren't the base for forcing a transformation, but as long as they have the "blessing" of the Unspeakable Gods, they may do so.

I was thinking about giving them the physical deformities and the lesser abilities, though both a little weaker.

I assume that the four with the true seal have the seal active all the time with no ill effects, but that the lesser seals would need to be activated and have the same (or maybe worse) effects as the cursed seals? If so, I think lesser versions of the powers and deformity would work well. If the lesser seal is always active or if there is no penalty for using it, then i would make the deformity have a chakra cost to maintain.

It wasn't what I thought at first, but I like it! Though they only get the chakra bonus and negative effects of the seal when they activate their deformity(since it takes such a toll on the body to change it to such a degree).

About the lesser versions, I was thinking of making their level 2 be much more horrific, with their deformity much more monstrous. But it would have to be acivated as normal(or upon command) for the lesser once.

lol funny enough if I combined all the stories our group has done so far it would make somthing along those lines, very detailed and thoughtout it would seem. Just call the lesser seals corruption, if your going along the physical deformaty route.

but thats given me a huge idea for our current campaign cause we have technically used one of the lords of darkness, the other three could come into play
