...Well, this has been a strange night. I can't say I'm truly proficient in the mess that is Star Wars: Saga Edition, and actually didn't know all that much about the rules until tonight.

So obviously, I did what I do and made rules for epic level gameplay for the system. Because, quite justifiably (?), that seemed like the next logical step (?).

Anyone have any experience with the Saga Edition system? Any campaign make it to high level gameplay?

I have some experience with Saga Edition, but we never made it to high levels.

why would you need epic levels? Because you want to level more after level 20?

Capping at 20 seems like a good idea to keep things as balanced as possible.

I'm not even going to dignify that with an answer.

Oh well... I see were that is going, you are not going to listen anyways, but here is my two cents, as I have been GM'ing for a long time.

I thought always epic levels were missing, but seeing the cap as capping abilities to something that is still possible as a human and keeping stuff sane, it was suddenly alright, that was about a year ago, well more like two years ago in less than 2 months.

If you go too high with levels, beyond 20 that is, your abilities become too powerful, and you can pull stuff that is on Mass Effect 2 Zaheed niveau [read: destroying the death star solo] without needing to get lucky rolls.
Objects are not scaled to levels higher than 20, epic levels destroy the balance. WHAT that bounty hunter survived a torpedo hit?

Really... some things should remain impossible.

Epic levels in that game feels as the most useless thing you can add there. But go ahead, it is not that I hadn't discarded that idea earlier. You will come like other stuff in some years to the same conclusion, if you are keep playing that is.

best i can offer is the Dawn of Defiance campaign that wizards made themselves, it takes a party from lvls 1 to 20 throughout 10 books(i've got the pdfs) you could always build up from there(it takes place 3 months after revenge of the sith to a point of your choosing, before a new hope)

although, fair warning, my particular group has the attention span of a gnat so we only ever got up to the third book(much to my annoyance, being a star wars fan wanting to see it through) and sorry for double post

You serious? There was talk about it atlest a year before it came out but I do understand your region gets things late or not at all. I can safely say it's atleast 3-4 years old.

Hey, hey, hey, guys. Some of you may not know this, but I'm a writer.

How about we take talk of pirating books off my fucking forums? Fantastic!

I'm all for embracing the internet, the new culture, the next generation of media, and all that, but on the other hand? Show some goddamn respect. Thanks!

I didn't see anything about pirating, the Dawn of Defiance campaign was released by WOTC as a "get to know Saga" thing.
Edit: It was however removed sometime ago.

I'm sure the guilty parties are aware of their misdeeds and won't repeat them.

you'd position saga edition between dnd 3.5 and 4.0;
it uses the skill system, which it does rather well and a dynamic class system which is neat. I prefer that class system to the old and new dnd classes.

in most aspects it is like dnd 4.0.

Yes, I'm absolutely serious.

When it comes to RPG, I'm not in the news. I mean, I do not follow any website that posts news about games. So, I get to know what new books are out by visiting the local shop, since I'm friends with the owner for a long, long time.

The fact is, those books did not reach Spain, and would not, so the shop never got any news on it. The only books the store imports are games that are VERY easy to sell (magic cards, d&d new core rulebooks...).

So, I lurked some more and there are talents, new hp, a system for creating sabers using crystals (!)... gues I'll have to import some -_-

If you like 4th D&D and the Star Wars genre, you should enjoy it. It combines all the normally "complex" actions into simple (but fun) format.

Unlike D&D and Star Wars d20 there's not that many class options, but there is a nice variety of talents.

A little late of a post, but relevant none-the-less:

I have some experience with the system. I was involved in a campaign a few years ago which was rather enjoyable. I had a knack for using vehicles as battering rams. Not always a tactic favored by the rest of the party, but it was fun and we still laugh about it to this day.

That particular campaign only got to around level 10 before it stopped. Another campaign would be played and I would jump in a few sessions later for a single session, due to not having the time every Sunday to participate.

I very much enjoy the system, although I wouldn't particularly care to run such a campaign, due to not being as knowledgeable enough about the Star Wars universe as our usual GM. Epic Rules could be pretty fun to use, since not every campaign plays out like KoTOR/II, where you're given an ass-load of bonuses for various reasons, making up for not having epic levels (or in the case of KoTOR, you just get ridiculously over-powered on top of having 30 levels).

A bit off topic but is anyone here planning on playing Star Wars: The Old Republic at some point?

I've been invited to the beta. That game kicks my computer in the balls so hard it's freezes almost completely.

I might consider it, IF I can play a beta or trial first. I'm really not interested in it if the game's gonna be another generic MMO. (This is my standard view on ANY new mmo, really)

I'm currently in the Beta and all I really have to say is UNF

(Keep in mind I'm a huge Star Wars nerd, so my opinion is likely very biased.)
