Hey everyone! This is my first post here I apologize if I do anything incorrectly.

Anyway, I'm trying to build a character for a game I might be joining. I wanted to know if I could get some help picking feats and techniques and possibly class, to fit into this concept I have. I have experience with d20 modern and have read through a fair amount of the naruto booklet, so feel free to use technical jargon.

So I wanted to make a ninja that specializes in taking other ninjas hostage, whether it be for interrogation or torture or simply to use as a lure. The limitations are, second level, 1+Int worth of techniques, academy student occupation, and i think that's it.

Thanks!

First, this should probably be in the Beginner's Lodge- Suggestions and Requests is for the most part concerning stuff that goes in the mainfile.

That being said, if Frankto sees fit to move it he will, so no harm done :p

My suggestion would be a Fast 1/Strong 1 starting off, Fast first to get more skill points overall. Feats I'd focus on are Defensive Combat Martial Arts, Improved Grapple, Combat Throw, and the Brawl line.

Brawl I find more useful for your character as it has a quicker damage increase than the Combat Martial Arts line, it limits you to NL damage normally but your character specializing in capture that wouldn't hinder them much. It also gives a bonus to attack rolls with Unarmed Strikes so it'll help make up for a lower BAB.

Brawl, Improved Brawl, possibly the Knockout Punch and Improved Knockout Punch later on... get stealth skills up so you can sneak up on people.

I'd suggest getting a Garrote Wire (it can be MC to increase the bonus on grapple checks it gives) Since Strangulation can be a quick way to take people out, and it disallows them to yell for help if they're the only one who know you're there.

Brass Knuckles are also a quick way to get around the NL limitation of Brawl as it forces you to deal lethal damage and, if you have Brawl, still uses your superior damage die with an added +1 to damage.

For Brawlers I tend to carry two Brass Knuckles. One that is Mastercraft for a bonus to attack rolls, one that is Mastercraft for a bonus to damage rolls. You can use both even if you lack Two-Weapon Fighting, you just switch between them during your iteratives.

The way I used to do it was attack with the damaging one first, then the accurate one, that way your second attack isn't a full 5 lower than your first, it's just not as powerful- a decent one-two punch.

Techniques!
There are a few decent stances for a character like this. The low-ranking Grapple Stance(Kakutou Waza...?) is useful starting out since the +2 Grapple can make a world of difference. Eventually you'd want to upgrade to the Ishimaru Stances if they're made available as their untyped bonus to Unarmed Attack and Damage will work wonders for you. The third one even has a Cleave-esque bonus attack if you beat anyone into submission.

Strength Ranks: Bonuses to Attack, Damage, and Grapples- nuff said. Note that you only need the Training Feat if you're going for anything above the third rank, you'd need Taijutsu Adept as well.

Speed Ranks: Bonus to movement and Hide checks, lets you get in quicker and more stealthily, the Dodge bonus to Defense is nice but won't help while you're grappling. Still a high priority for any melee/capture specialist as it lets you pursue much easier.

Shundou/Shunpo: For Taijutsu focused characters Shundou is your Avoidance move, what you use to not get hit at key moments, Shunpo is another stance you can use for a massive movement speed boost- with mastery you can avoid paying chakra every round too. Again, great for getting in quick and unseen, great for pursuit.

The Nagewaza moves: There are several Taijutsu Moves that are centered around grapple checks. Some give you free attempts at Disarm or Trip, one lets you Throw someone and deal damage if they collide with anything, some just end the grapple to deal some good damage, bring the pain!

If you're also planning to take some Nijutsu, I'd say either Fuuton or Doton make a good primary Element. Fuuton has some utility in certain techniques like Sarutobi no Jutsu (lets you double jump), or one that negates falling damage- both of which are very low rank. Doton has one that gives you Tremorsense which is great for scouts or sneaky types, lets you sense opponents around or through walls!

This is all personal opinion based on a sneaky grappler I've played in the past, by all means disregard the grappling bits if you're looking for something more direct. Combat Martial Arts, Improved Combat Martial Arts, Advanced Combat Martial Arts, and Superior Combat Martial Arts are also a great line of feats since they let you deal Nonlethal or Lethal damage as you see fit without Brass Knuckles, I just tend to prefer the Brawl line for non-Taijutsu Masters.

Welcome to the forums!

If you haven't decided on a clan there are also some clans that provide great hijutsus that would be right up your character design's alley, Akimichi for grappling, Nara for disabling, Yamanaka for capturing and interrogation.

I'm possibly the worst at reading the entire thing. I suffer from Skimitis.
