Sohei questions

Good evening,
Had a question regarding the Sohei and the Intuitive Weapon Proficiency class ability.

So while Intuitive Weapon Proficiency can be used to make you proficient in any weapon you currently do not have proficiency for, what about the ones that you DO have proficiency for?

Do you still have to make the same check at the same DC in order to gain the benefits of the other abilities in the class? Or by having proficiency are you automatically excluded from then gaining the other benefits of this class?

Any/all advice would be very much appreciated here.

I would say treat it as a frequently used simple/improvised weapon. Free action, DC 8.
