Hello all (Frankto, I hope it's okay I post this here. If not, my sincerest apologies.)

As some of you may have read, or not, I am currently working on making an extended technique list, which includes not only the names of all jutsu, but also a very short summary of what they do, like the spell lists in the D&D Player's Handbook.

Now, in order to make it exactly what you, as the readers and users of the main file want, I would like some input as to what you want this list to contain.

Obviously, it will contain every jutsu, with its name, its translation and a short summary of its effects, sorted by Type and subtype (as per the normal Technique List).

But, is there anything else that might be useful to add? Like the Learn DC or Perform DC, the Chakra Cost or the Complexity Rating (You know, A-Rank, B-Rank, etc.)...and so on and so on.

I would like to know whether you would think something like that useful (for example, because it allows you to quickly look at something you usually need to scroll the file for or something).
I can't add everything, because then it would just be similar to the techniques...so tell me, please, so that I can finish it.

Please, don't spam this topic with comments that say nothing more than 'wow, how nice' or 'man, that sucks'. I need info on what you want.

You have my thanks.

Type of jutsu would be nice, for those specialists. Not sure if it was planned, but I didn't see it (Ninjutsu, Genjutsu, Taijutsu, Chakra Control) and page of the main file it can (currently) be found maybe. Also, possibly, just dropping 'no jutsu' and 'technique' from the respective places if space is an issue (since it will be on most anyway...) Taking Goukakyuu as an example, maybe something like (pipes (|) representing new tab/cell/etc):

3 | Goukakyuu | Grand Fireball | Ninjutsu (Katon)* | Close | Cone | Ref Half | 2d6 damage | Pg 173/174

The cells as follows (in Excel, you'd have a frozen 'header' list at the top I'm sure...)
Jutsu Rank | Japanese Name | Translation | Type (Subtype) | Range | Area | Save | Effect | Page Number

That might be the most efficient way that I can see right off to do things. Information like Complexity Rating is nice, but not really needed for the jutsu list I don't think.

You could add Chakra Cost in there as well, if you were so inclined. Maybe components, but those would probably be better suited on a 'player' version, rather then a master list. You think? Opinions are welcome.

* - Type (Subtype) can be done one of two ways. Neither way is inherently 'superior' to the other. 'Type (Subtype)', or 'Type | Subtype'.

[Edit] Fixed a typo with page number for Goukakyuu. One of these days I'm going to replace my 'new' copy of the book with the actual 'new' copy of the book >.> [/edit]

Ok...well I already dropped the 'technique' from the translation, along with any other unneccessary translations.

I currently have

Technique name (Translation) (Learn DC) (Perform DC) (Chakra Cost) Effect summary.

Basically like the DnD spell list, except with three added values which are important for both players and GMs to know.

They are already selected by Rank, Type and Subtype.

CHAKRA CONTROL

RANK 1

X no Jutsu

Body

Y no Jutsu
Z

Spirit

XY no Jutsu

RANK 2

etc. etc.

I can't use cells, since I want to give this to Frankto so he can (hopefully) put it in the main file, since so many people were asking for it.

That's fine, I didn't know if it would be done via a spreadsheet program (Excel/OOo Calc), .doc, or what.

Ok, now that I see moreso how you were looking at putting it together...

What you have listed would work well I think. Is this going to go into the same spot 'technique list' is now?

And I'm still wondering if you should put the page number of the full jutsu on the list. Would make finding them a lot easier (granted, you can search through a PDF, but few people seem to know of that 'secret' from my experience >.>. And searching for a jutsu that acts as prerequisites for many other jutsu will yeild a lot of 'false positives')

Page numbers would be a pain when more jutsu are added though, since you'd have to go through and mod each entry individually.

Don't add damage or things like that. Put in a short, concise description of the effect of the jutsu, the Rank, and the chakra cost.

If one's learning a new jutsu, they SHOULD look up and read the whole jutsu.

As a DM's tool, maybe the 1:1 convert DC's would be nice to have on hand....

As for Page numbers, you can try, but they'll change far too rapidly for your comfort. Just go with a format like D&D's.... should be easy enough.

Well, my reasoning for the Perform and Learning DCs was mostly for the GM, but I suppose they're not absolutely necessary. Conversion DCs...I dont know...they're pretty basic, aren't they?

It's just a standard number, increased by Rank (which is given), increased by a certain number for 1:1 (8 if I am not mistaken, also a number that doesn't change) and, in case no time increase is included, another +5...also an unchanging number.

So, basically...the DC for any conversion 1:1 is... 18 + Rank, if you're using the +5 DC optional rule. Since the Rank for any technique is given, and so is the chakra cost...there's really no need to put it in there. I could, of course, give the DC at every rank.

So, something like:

Chakra Control

Rank 1 (Base 1:1 Conversion DC - 19 + Chakra Converted)

But to list it for every technique would be a bit much, since all techniques from the same rank have the same DC.

...Right? (...My brain is so mushy I dont know what is right anymore -_-')

I think base damage could be listed. So Goukakyuu no Jutsu would be:

Rank 3 Katon
Goukakyuu no Jutsu (Grand Fireball Technique): (LDC 16) (PDC 16) (4+) Cone of fire deals 2d6 or more fire damage

If there ever is one technique listing, it'd look like this:

Raikousen no Jutsu (Lightning Something Technique): Fires a ray attack agaisnt one target that deals 3d6 points of electricity damage.

And I don't want to hampen your spirits or nothing, but I'd wait until the mainfile's done to make a technique listing.

Eh it's not too much trouble, really. If there are ever updates, I could easily update a technique list. Thanks for telling me exactly how you want it. Because that's about what I did, with exception that I added some numbers. But I suppose people would know those numbers anyway since its their tech and all.

would be most cool if could click on it and it takes you to the full jutsu, can go back and forth.

Also, english trans of the names would help newcomers a lot, tech list sorted by enlgish alphabetical.

I have 0 knowledge of how to do the first thing, so that's not an option.

Also, they won't be sorted on english name. They will be sorted by type, then rank, then subtype, then alphabet (on their japanese name), just like the technique index is sorted in the main file.

I could help you with that. If it is already done, where is the list? Also, I see no reaosn a short description of the technique should not be listed. It took me quite a long time to go through the techniques and I was skimming most of the time.

Would be great if the rank of the technique would also be there (A, B etc.).

Good Job!

In light of the comments...I may make two lists.

One I will present to Frankto. It will contain nothing but the name and a summary of its workings, all sorted by kind, type and subtype.

Another one I will dub the 'GM version'. It contains not only the name and the effect, but also the rank (I mean A, B, etc.), the Perform DC, the Learn DC and the Chakra Cost. I think that's all a GM needs to know as far as numbers are concerned.

Edit: Whether the second list goes public I can't say. It would be a bit disrespectful to do so without Frankto's permission...I mean, you need to donate to get a printable main file, so...if I just hand out these which everyone can print...would be a bit unfair, I think. If Frankto agrees, I will make it public. Otherwise I can give it to him and maybe he can make a pdf from it, which is also unprintable for those that havent donated or something...We'll just have to see.

The first list will, if everything goes right, be in the main file. I think.

Will you also include a link to the file on this thread that has the list seperate or are you just going to tell everyone to redownload the main file?

I would assume the list is to be taken into the main file at the next update, if at all.

But yes, if Frankto permits it, I will make sure the file is available seperately.

Sorry it's taking so long. I'll not make any solid promises, but if you could just hang on one more week, it'll be done. (I'd do it this weekend, but I don't have the time since I won't be home).
